Elpis
Elpis is an open-source, provider-neutral terminal environment for coding agents that focuses on keeping working context small, inspectable, and useful across long sessions. Derived from the Codex execution foundation, it adds selective context pruning, an explicit context ledger, durable memory, portable continuity checkpoints, provider selection, permissions, retrieval, and evidence tracking. Developers can use it with OpenAI/Codex, Gemini, Claude, Ollama, and other providers while seeing which files, tool outputs, and instructions are admitted to the active context. Its pruning workflow keeps meaningful conclusions and evidence pointers while removing dead ends, rather than blindly summarizing the entire conversation. Elpis is for engineers who run long coding-agent sessions and need lower context costs, clearer continuity, and more deliberate control over what the model sees. The current repository and Show HN launch verify a substantial, installable developer tool rather than a concept page.
